Teach a Man to Fish: Coaching Development Teams

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” so goes the famous Chinese proverb, and the same principle applies elsewhere in life. In development teams, we often recruit to fill skills gaps or to increase our output, which is time-consuming and expensive – and isn’t always necessary. In this session we’ll look at strategies for enabling our existing teams to perform better, by seeking and sharing knowledge, skills and processes. There will be practical approaches for building an efficient, self-improving, sustainable team from the materials at hand … your existing team! If you are a manager, technical lead, or aspire to improve yourself as a developer then you can look forward to some new ideas from this session.Associated slides
